Description: Today's space based systems leverage proprietary solutions to secure management and data interfaces (type 1) and on-board processor software (limited software development and upgrades). Future systems can implement terrestrial commercial open-standards based trusted solutions to decrease risk and cost and increase interoperability. Networking protocols such as IPSec Suite b can be used to secure external and internal communication interfaces. Additionally, on-board processors and memory can be designed to support trusted software. During this discussion, high level requirements and suggested best practices will be described.
